Privacy, Data, and Correspondence Policy

1. Data Collected

• Mailing address (required for sending your letter)

• Email address (for order communication)

• Letter content (for copying and mailing)

2. Why and How Data is Used

• To fulfill your letter order and, if requested, enable ongoing correspondence

• For administrative or legal compliance (e.g., payment records)

3. Data Retention Period

Single/one-off letters:

• Mailing addresses and contact info are deleted within 30 days of posting.

• Letter content is deleted at the same time.

Ongoing penpal relationships:

• Previous letters and mailing address are retained for as long as correspondence continues.

• If correspondence ends (on your request or after 90 days of silence), your data is deleted within 30 days.

• You may request deletion at any time.

4. User Control

• You may request deletion of your data or letters at any time.

• For penpal exchanges, ending the correspondence (or 90 days of no response) triggers deletion of personal data.

5. Third-Party Services

• Payments are processed via Stripe; your payment details are handled by their systems, not stored by The Amanuensis.

• Form data may be collected through Tally forms, which retains data per Tally's privacy policy.

Liability and Terms of Service

Once posted, your letter is at the mercy of the world—The Amanuensis cannot guarantee delivery, speed, or condition upon arrival. Letters may be delayed, lost, or otherwise transformed by the postal system or fate itself. No compensation is offered for such events.

Service may be interrupted, delayed, or declined at The Amanuensis's discretion, or due to circumstances beyond The Amanuensis' control (postal strikes, disasters, pandemics, existential crises).

By using this service, you acknowledge these risks and agree that The Amanuensis bears no liability for lost, delayed, or damaged mail, or for any losses or claims arising from the service.
